Coastella Music Festival will be returning to the Kapiti Coast in 2017 following what organisers describe as a ‘near perfect’ inaugural earlier this year. This year, the organisers are promising to go one better and organise the perfect summer music festival so make sure you get your early bird tickets booked and look forward to a fantastic day of live music in February.
When and where is Coastella?
Coastella is taking place on Saturday 25 February at the Southward Car Museum and if last year is anything to go by, the weather should be amazing! The Southward Car Museum is located on the spectacular Kapiti Coast and for those who have never visited that part of New Zealand, it’s worth the trip to Coastella for the stunning views as well as the awesome live music. Tickets went on sale in the last week of October and the early bird special of just $55 will be available until the 28 December so get your tickets booked now – they will make an awesome Christmas present for someone!
What is Coastella all about?
This year Coastella will feature toe-tapping music all the way from Ireland (well, some of the performers are from New Zealand but with an Irish twist!) and promises festival-goers an unmissable day out. This year’s line-up (so far) includes:
- The Phoenix Foundation
- The Eastern
- Warren Maxwell
- Wellington City Shake-‘em-on-downers
- Eva Prowse
- The Nukes
- Jesse Sheeran
- Craig Smith
- Seamus Begley Trio
The festival was set up to showcase both established and emerging talent as well as offering a chance to showcase this stunning part of the country. The music, whilst having an ‘Irish toe-tapping’ theme covers a wide range of genres including indie rock, Americana, rock, folk, New Orleans Swing, hip hop and elecro. One of the biggest draws at this year’s festival is The Phoenix Foundation – the internationally acclaimed indie rock band behind the world wide phenomenon, Hunt for the Wilderpeople soundtrack.
Following the huge success of the inaugural event last year, organisers are expecting even bigger crowds this time around, particularly with the move of date to the end of February and the height of the summer. The Southward Car Museum is a stunning venue to host a festival as the natural amphitheatre not only provides awesome acoustics, but is also perfect for the five stages that will be set up for Coastella 2017, accommodating over 20 acts.
Getting there and away
If you are headed out on a road trip with GO Rentals, there is a good amount of parking at the venue and this costs just $5 which goes direct to the Kapiti Rotary. There is also a bus from Wellington CBD and return tickets can be purchased for $25 return so there are plenty of options available for those wishing to attend.
A few of the GO Rentals Wellington team attended the event last year and were blown away! We reckon there will be a few more of the team heading along this year! We’d love to know if you attended last year and if you’ve got any photos to share so we can add them in to our post so people can see just how good it was! If you’re planning on heading to Coastella 2017, let us know in the comments or on our Facebook page and we will give you a shout out!
