If you’re looking for an all-year indoor snow experience, the thrill of snow sports and the atmosphere of a snow village any time of the year, try Snowplanet – New Zealand’s only indoor snow resort. You don’t have to go to Landgraaf in the Netherlands, China, France, Japan or Germany to experience the thrill of carefully designed indoor ski slopes. As the Southern Hemisphere’s only indoor snowdome, and one of only two southern indoor ski centres, Snow Planet is a must-experience stop off for anyone who loves skiing or snowboarding.
Located at Silverdale, 25 minutes North of Auckland, Snowplanet’s giant snowdome features 50 centimetres of manufactured powder snow, three lifts, a terrain park for the freestyle skiers & snowboarders and a separate learners slope for a fun day out regardless of the weather.
Opened in 2005, Snowplanet’s main slope is 200m long and it has been trialled and proved to be a great snow experience. The resort includes a Terrain Park with jumps, rails, a ski line and beginner’s area. When you need a stop the Snowplanet Restaurant and Bar boasts panoramic views onto the snow, and the other resort visitors.
One of the best features is that the complex is strategically placed to slope uphill. Making use of the natural surroundings and geography has helped make this a first not a last resort. For those who aren’t confident or haven’t skied or boarded there is expert advice and instruction to get you moving.
Entry fees range from a morning pass (10am to 12 noon) for $32 for adults and $25 for children to a full day pass for $59 for adults and $39 for children.
Equipment and clothing can be rented on site and tuition is also available. Be aware that it is below freezing in Snowdome and wear your winter woollies and waterproofs to ward off frostbite!
Opening hours are 10am to 10pm Monday to Thursday, 10am to midnight on Friday and 9am to 10pm on weekends. Snowdome is open 365 days a year, with reduced hours on statutory holidays.
Come and share awesome snow experiences 365 days of the year.
