Well, we thought it was time we finally jumped on the Christmas bandwagon. This is our first post of the year about Christmas and, whilst we would usually wait until December, this weekend promises to be a cracker down in Wellington so we thought we’d make sure we told everyone about it!
If you love Christmas (or you have kids who are already super excited about it), then you might want to plan a little trip down to Wellington this coming weekend. Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 November sees the annual ‘A Very Welly Christmas’ Santa Parade hitting the streets of the capital and it once again promises to be a cracking weekend of Christmas festivities.
As well as the annual Santa parade, there will also be Carols in Midland Park on Saturday 25 November from 6pm. Join the Wellington Brass Band and get your singing voice in tune for all the classic favourites.
Christmas in the capital – what to see and do
If you are planning a trip down to Wellington for the weekend or even if you live in the city, then here is a little run down of the activities and events taking place across the weekend.
- Santa Parade – the main highlight of the weekend is the Santa Parade. This will leave Ballance St each day at midday travelling the wrong way down Lambton Quay to the David Jones store – expect big floats, amazing costumes and lots of colour as well as the big man himself.
- Santa’s Grotto – as the parade reaches its end, Santa will be found in his grotto which is located inside the David Jones store where your kids can meet the main man himself
- Santa’s Sleigh – the guys at Absolutely Positively Welly are in charge of Santa’s sleigh and it is going to be pretty unique. You’ll be able to grab your picture with the sleigh as it will be parked outside of David Jones once the parade comes to an end
- Carols in Midland Park – what better way to get into the spirit than cranking out some Christmas Carols – the carol concert is one of the highlights of the weekend and kicks off in Midland Park from 6pm on the Saturday night
All for a good cause
As well as the opportunity to meet Santa, check out the amazing costumes and floats and belt out some Christmas Carols, A Very Welly Christmas is also a great opportunity to give to those less fortunate. This community event is put on in support of the Wellington Children’s Hospital and there will be plenty of opportunities to donate throughout the weekend so dig deep and spread some Christmas cheer to those who need it most.
