Our Auckland City branch is conveniently located in downtown Auckland, meaning you’re only a stone’s throw away from Auckland’s CBD. If you do fancy walking to or from the branch to the city centre, it’s approximately 800m to Britomart Train Station which should take you around 10 minutes.

You’re one step closer to exploring NZ with us. When you come to collect your hire car at our Auckland City branch, you’ll need a valid driver’s licence and a credit or debit card for security. A credit card is mandatory if you have selected our Basic or Assured insurance options. It must have your name printed on it for verification and the card must be valid until the drop-off date.

Unfortunately, we don’t offer an out of hours service at our Auckland City branch. We do offer after-hours services at all of our other branches but there is no key drop off service in Auckland City. When making a booking, you may want to consider booking from our Auckland Airport branch if you know you need to pick up or drop off your rental car out of hours. Our Airport branch is a short 25-minute drive from downtown Auckland and there are a number of public transport options available to get you from the city to the airport or vice versa.

If you are running late to pick up or drop off during our branch hours, you must contact our Auckland City branch immediately during branch hours at +64 9 974 1598 to notify us.

We sure do. We can arrange one-way car hires to and from all our locations including Auckland City. There are a couple of things you’ll have to consider - we do have minimum hire periods in place, and one-way hires are dependent on the time of year and your direction of travel and may be subject to a relocation feel. The rental cost per day varies on location, vehicle type, seasonality availability and the rental period. We do offer a lower rate for longer rental periods. Our branch hours at the Auckland City branch are:
8am - 5pm Monday to Sunday

You don’t need a credit card to book a hire car with GO Rentals, you can use a Visa or Mastercard debit card.

You do need a credit card if you opt for our GO basic or Assured insurance options with a required bond deposit. This is due to the security bond required upon pick up.

You can upgrade to our GO Peace of Mind insurance option if you would like to pay with a debit card. Both options cost per day but do not have an upfront security bond.

Just a heads up that if you pay for your hire online, your debit card will be subject to a non-refundable payment processing fee. Your credit or debit card must have the cardholder's name embossed on the front for verification and the cardholder must be the main hirer.

All drivers need to show their physical driver's licence in the branch to be added to a booking. You can call and add a driver to your booking for an additional driver charge and you will simply need to drop into any GO Rentals branch before they can get behind the wheel.

New Zealand has a total of 3 toll roads which are situated on the North Island.

• Auckland - The Auckland Northern Gateway Toll Road is a part of State Highway 1, between the areas of Silverdale and Johnstone Hills.
• Tauranga - The Tauranga Eastern Link Toll Road is part of State Highway 2 which starts near the Domain Road interchange, near Pāpāmoa and finishes near the Paengaroa roundabout.
• Tauranga - The Tauranga Takitimu Drive Toll Road is part of State Highway 29. It bypasses the Tauranga city centre and takes traffic towards Port of Tauranga and Mt Maunganui.

You can drive on most full international driver's licences without an international driver's permit. Visitors can drive in New Zealand for 1 year from the date you enter the country, providing you have no suspensions or disqualifications. If your licence is not in English, you are required to obtain an official NZTA approved English translation and carry both copies with you at all times. If you are looking for a small car to zip around the city, our Toyota Yaris Cross or Corolla are the perfect city vehicles. With automatic transmissions and compact design, you can be confident in driving city lanes and fitting into busy parking spots.

You can change your drop-off location to Auckland airport at any time by calling us. Please note that there may be a relocation fee to change your drop-off location.

Auckland is a large city with many attractions in the suburbs rather than downtown. You can get around the city via bus, train or ferry public transport options. However, to explore the full Auckland region and take advantage of the day trips, it is recommended to book a rental car. Auckland is a driveable metropolitan city with wide streets and plenty of parking.

There is plenty of street parking in Auckland but it is generally limited to 2 hours and charges per hour. Parking is usually easier in one of the many paid car parks in downtown Auckland.

Parking is not free in Auckland City and can start from $2 per hour. There are free parking spots further out in the suburbs and regional areas.

Most roads in Auckland city have a speed limit of 30km (18.6 miles) per hour with the exception of a few shared pedestrian and vehicle zones with a speed limit of 10km (6.2 miles) per hour.

The access roads around downtown Auckland can range between 40 and 70 km per hour. The maximum speed on regional roads is 100 km (62 miles) per hour.

Always follow the speed limit signs and practice safe driving in Auckland.

Unfortunately, we do not offer drop-offs or pick-ups from hotels. If you are unable to organise transport to or from our branch, or need special assistance, you can call us at the branch and the team will do their best to accommodate your situation

There is no upper age limit to hire a car with the GO Rentals Auckland branch. As long as you hold a valid and unrestricted driver licence.

To rent and drive a car with GO Rentals, you must be at least 21 years of age. This excludes cars like the Tesla Model 3 and Tesla Model Y, which have higher age restrictions of 25 years of age.

Little ones should enjoy the Kiwi adventure too! We have baby capsules, child seats and booster seats available to hire from all our branches. Simply proceed to your car rental checkout and add your car seat accessory to your hire. Booking in advance allows us to fit your car with the seat so you can get GOing on your road trip straight away.

Waiheke Island is an amazing day trip from Auckland. We allow all of our rental cars, apart from the Teslas, on the ferry so you can enjoy New Zealand without limits. We also have a conveniently located Waiheke car rental branch at the wharf so you can enjoy a day trip or longer.

Our most popular vehicles tend to change depending on the season. We have a wide range of rental cars available at our Auckland City branch and some of the most popular vehicles include the Toyota Corolla, Tesla Model 3 and Tesla Model Y.

Our Auckland City branch is located on 165 Beach Road, 1010. You will find 2 garage doors, 1 for the entrance and 1 for the exit. Simply drive your car rental into the entrance and hand your keys back to a friendly team member.

Just a few doors down from our Auckland City GO Rentals branch on Beach Road, there is a service station. All rental cars need to be returned with a full tank of petrol or close to the fuel tank at pick-up or you could incur a fuel top-up charge and admin fee.

Auckland boasts many EV charging stations in the city centre. Those closest to our Auckland City branch include:

• Z Auckland Parnell - 150 Beach Road, 1010. Located a few doors down.
• Auckland War Memorial Museum - The Auckland Domain, Parnell, 1010.
• Tesla Destination Charger - 130 Quay Street, CBD, 1140.

New Zealand roads are well maintained and safe to drive on both the North and South Islands. Cars are driven on the left-hand side and may take some getting used to for international drivers who travel on the right-hand side. Prepare for the differences in road rules with our helpful guides:

First of all, we’d want to make sure that everyone’s okay. In the unfortunate event of an accident, the branch you collected the vehicle from would be the first point of contact after an accident. Please contact us at your earliest convenience so our team can advise you of the process and we can organise to send you the appropriate claims forms by email.

If involved in an accident, you must also:

• Notify the NZ Police and obtain a police report where practicable
• Not make any admission of liability
• Where possible, take some photos of the accident site and the damaged vehicles and provide these to GO Rentals; and
• Complete the forms provided to record the full details of all parties including witnesses and the vehicles involved in the accident along with the Hirer’s or Authorised Driver’s written statement and diagram of the accident circumstances.
